Literacy in K/1

Literacy takes many forms within our classroom.  It's easy to make literacy a part of your life at home too.  Anytime that you are talking with your children, reading signs or menus, looking at books, writing grocery lists together, etc., you are making their literacy skills stronger.

We use the word wall to find words we want to write.

We wear kid crowns and become the expert that others can go to to spell a word (example: gent of went)

We might find words we want to write in our picture dictionaries.

We use words from the vocabulary wall.

We practice writing our words on whiteboards.

We use letter magnets to spell words.

We find a comfy spot to read.

We stamp our words.

We use Ms. MacIsaac's phone to text people we miss :)

We use cubes to make words (go).

We write letters or cards.

We listen to books on CD.

We make words with wikki stix.  (By the way, the word is butter- just not on one line!)
