Reading/Listening Comprehension

An important part of learning to read is understand what you have read or heard read.  We are working on a new strategy that you can try out at home called "Check for Understanding".  Basically, one student "reads" a page then the other person says "I just heard you read....." to demonstrate their understanding and also to force them to listen carefully to the story for details.  Then they switch.
If you are reading to your child at home, you can read them a couple of pages and have them do the same thing, telling you what they understand so far about the story.
