Estimation

Estimation is a skill that we will work on throughout the year.  We talked about how we can look at a small amount of things and use that information to "guess" how many might be in the big pile.  Today I showed them what 10 counters looked like.  Then I asked each pair to look at their bag of counters and make a guess as to how many might be in there.  They then had to count them, grouping by tens.  Some of their estimations were pretty close.  This is an easy skill you can practice at home.
